in a magical land by the name of rhyme ...
There were a family of dragons born from magic and light. When they were together, they could create all sorts of wonders with their magic. Each dragon carried a unique ability and a unique form of magic, corresponding to the colour of their scales. Their scales shone brightly in red, orange, yellow, green, blue and purple. Their big brother, and the one who made use of their natural gifts, was big white a dragon called Prism.
Prism was much larger than his siblings, and while he had no magic like theirs, he was the only one who could conjure up anything into existence by harnessing their abilities. His siblings created magical fruit for him to eat which gave him the power to make magical paint, and by using the tip of his fluffy tail as a paint brush, he could paint into life - anything they could imagine. Twinkling stars, sunset skies, colourful meadows, sparkling gemstones - Prism could create it all, with thanks to his siblings and their fruit.
They made a world of their own: Together, the dragons and Prism combined their colours and their magic to make unique regions to explore. While they had all the fun in the world being together on their many adventures, they ultimately decided that they wanted to share their creation with other magical creatures. After generously combined their magic, they created a magical rainbow bridge which would allow other magical creatures to enter their world that they had created.
The rainbow bridge was the link of their world to others. Crossing over it came unicorns, gryphons, fairies, pixies, yลkai - and all sorts of magical creatures seeking a place to live and call home. Communities were established and before the dragons knew it, they had a bustling little world they made for themselves. It was paradise at last. Until one day, when everything changed.
With such a bustling population of magical beings, an evil Witch crossed over the rainbow bridge in order to steal creatures to take as her pets. Drawn to their luminous and colourful scales, the Witch took an immediate liking to Prism's siblings, and captured them all. Because he wasn't luminous and magical, Prism was left behind. The Witch took his captive siblings and as she left, she destroyed the rainbow bridge behind her - along with Prism's only hope of ever seeing his siblings again.
This created an immediate problem for Prism: creation of the rainbow bridge was only made possible with his siblings' magic. With them gone, he had no way to rebuild the rainbow bridge and search for them. The white dragon felt heartbroken and lost. He couldn't use magic any more, and now had a world to govern without his beloved family.
Inspired by Prism and his siblings' generosity, the magical creatures who were allowed to live and thrive in the lands created by the dragons comforted Prism with a promise that they would help him find his siblings again. Although they all lacked the ability to create the same type of magic that his siblings had, they shared their own experiences which would prove to be useful. The most experienced mages in the realm who were well-versed in magic speculated that the dragons' fruit was tied to their emotions. Since Faerie creatures feel emotions a lot differently to others, perhaps other creatures should be brought to the land to test this theory.
With nothing to lose, Prism agreed to send Fae across other realms and worlds to find humankind to bring into their world, in a brand new village that they would later name Fable. Prism had only one request for the Fae in this instance: They cannot steal human babies or kidnap anyone from their world. He knows what they're like. The Fae sighed their consent, abandoning their more traditional methods of capturing humans in order to try and fulfil Prism's request.
... a brand new face arrived. (yours!)
Perhaps, in your world, you've read stories about magical fairy creatures. You may have read fairytales, even ones about how fairies can
steal people away.
In the depths of sleep, you hear fluttering wings and glistening fairy dust. Everything seems normal, until you start to feel a small part of yourself ascending - consciously looking back at your sleeping body. This tiny conscious fragment of you is then placed in a little glass bottle, secured by a cork in the top. At least, you
think it's you. Is this you? You suddenly feel as though your consciousness has grown very small compared to the vessel that it was in. If this is a dream, it's a very strange one.
But it isn't a dream. A part of your soul has been taken by the Fae, but you are none the wiser to this at the moment. They're whimsical creatures who are indulging in idle chatter about the souls they have collected, while they fly through magical veils with you in their bag. It is dark, and all you can hear are fairy giggles and banter while they make their journey.
Shortly after, you arrive in a brand new world - and once the Fae return, they open the glass bottle which releases the small fragment of your soul, and it magically materialises into another 'you', just like the one left at home. Before you can even raise your voice to question what the hell has happened, you are interrupted by the squeaky, cheerful voices of your captors.
"Now, now! Don't be mad at us! We know that fairies have a reputation for stealing people, but we promise that we didn't steal you! We just took a portion of your soul, and now ... poof! You're a new version of you!"
How much of their story do you believe? You might even enquire why you have been taken.
"Oh, nothing malicious, dearie. We haven't stolen any human babies or made any swaps. Nothing like that! The tales you may read put us in a very terrible light, we'll have you know!"
... But that's getting off topic.
"Anyway - welcome to Fable! This is your new home! You get to live in a cottage and live a relaxed life among your human neighbours while you enjoy this magical land inhabited by all sorts of mythological creatures! There's plenty of stuff to do, and ... Hey! Why are you looking at me like that!? I'm telling the truth! If you don't believe me, go and speak to the town mayor or even the dragon who governs this place. Then you'll know that you can trust the Fae, after all! Hmph!"
What strange creatures. But eventually, you learn they were telling the truth. You get to see through a magic mirror that the 'old' you is still back asleep right where you were left. They are waking up and getting ready to start the day, none the wiser that a part of their soul has left to form a new cottagecore life. Maybe it's time to settle in and find some other people brought into this weirdness ...
